Klackey Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Klackey, LLC ("Klackey," "we," "us," or "our") processes information through the Klackey desktop application, its trial-verification service, and its licensing functions.
1. Summary
Klackey is designed to keep your working content on your device. We do not operate a cloud service that receives or stores your clippings, notes, folders, tags, abbreviations, clipboard history, or other content entered into the application.
Klackey does not require a Klackey user account and does not include Klackey-operated cloud synchronization. The application can be used offline for ordinary day-to-day access to locally stored content, subject to periodic license validation for purchased licenses.
Limited information is transmitted for trial enforcement, license activation and validation, update checks, and referral attribution. Those activities are described below.
2. Information Stored Locally
The following information is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to Klackey as part of ordinary application use:
- Clippings and clipboard-history content.
- Notes and journal content.
- Folder, binder, tag, and abbreviation content.
- Pinned items, usage state, preferences, and locally generated backups.
- Imported content and exported files.
You control local files and backups. They may be accessible to other people or software that can access your device, operating-system account, backup location, or synchronized folders that you independently choose to use.
3. License Activation and Validation
When you activate, validate, or deactivate a purchased license, the application communicates directly with Lemon Squeezy's License API. Lemon Squeezy acts as Klackey's merchant of record and licensing provider.
The application transmits:
- The license key.
- A device instance label consisting of the device hostname and operating-system identifier, such as
Work-Laptop-win32. - The license-instance identifier when required to validate or deactivate an existing activation.
Lemon Squeezy returns license status and related license metadata needed to determine whether the license is valid and whether an activation is available. Klackey stores locally the licensing information required to maintain the activation and validation state.
Lemon Squeezy separately processes purchase information, such as customer name, email address, billing information, transaction information, tax information, and payment method details. Klackey does not receive complete payment-card details. Lemon Squeezy's processing is governed by its own privacy policy and buyer terms:
4. Trial Integrity
Klackey offers a time-limited free trial. To prevent the trial from being repeatedly reset by reinstalling the application or clearing local data, the application derives a device identifier from Windows MachineGuid or macOS IOPlatformUUID.
The underlying operating-system identifier is not transmitted. Before transmission, the application applies SHA-256 to create a pseudonymous device value. The resulting value is sent to Klackey's trial-verification service hosted using Cloudflare Workers.
The trial-verification service processes:
- The pseudonymous device value.
- Trial start and expiration information.
- Request timestamps and limited request information needed to operate and protect the service.
- The connecting IP address as necessarily processed when the request reaches Cloudflare and the service.
The pseudonymous device value is used only to determine whether the device has previously received a Klackey trial and to prevent trial abuse. It is not stored with a customer name, email address, license key, clipping, note, or other application content. Once a license is purchased and activated, the application no longer needs to query the trial record for ordinary licensed use.
A cryptographic hash reduces exposure of the underlying identifier, but a stable hashed value may still be treated as personal data or personal information under applicable law. Klackey treats it accordingly where required.
5. Update Checks
The application may periodically contact a Klackey service hosted using Cloudflare Workers to determine whether a newer version is available. An update check may transmit:
- The installed Klackey version.
- The operating system and platform needed to identify a compatible update.
- Standard network-request information, including the connecting IP address, that is necessarily processed by the hosting provider.
Klackey does not include clipping, note, clipboard, abbreviation, folder, or tag content in an update check.
6. Referral Attribution
If you arrive through an affiliate or referral link, Klackey may temporarily process the referral code, request time, and network information needed to associate the referral with a download or purchase.
Referral correlation does not read or transmit application content. Temporary unclaimed referral records expire within six hours. A referral that results in a purchase may be retained with transaction or affiliate records as reasonably necessary for payment, accounting, fraud prevention, dispute handling, and legal compliance.
If you do not use a referral link, Klackey does not create an affiliate attribution record for your visit or download.
7. Service Providers
Klackey uses the following service providers for the limited purposes described in this policy:
- Lemon Squeezy: Merchant of record, payment processing, tax handling, order administration, refunds, chargebacks, and software-license activation and validation.
- Cloudflare: Hosting and protection of trial verification, update checks, and referral-related endpoints. Cloudflare necessarily processes network-request information, including IP addresses, to deliver and secure those services.
These providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Their handling of information is also governed by their respective privacy notices and contractual obligations.
8. Information Klackey Does Not Collect
Klackey does not collect through the desktop application's ordinary operation:
- The content of your clippings, notes, folders, binders, tags, or abbreviations.
- The contents of your clipboard or clipboard history.
- Files or images stored in your local Klackey database.
- Advertising identifiers.
- Behavioral advertising profiles.
- Usage analytics or product telemetry.
- Automatic crash reports.
Klackey does not sell personal information. Klackey does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising.
9. Secure Content
Content placed in a Klackey secure-storage feature is protected locally using encryption and operating-system security facilities. The exact protection depends on the operating system and Software version. Windows may use Windows Data Protection API facilities, and macOS may use Keychain facilities, to protect cryptographic material used by the application.
No local encryption system can protect content from every threat. A person or process with access to your unlocked operating-system account, active Klackey session, decrypted export, screen, keyboard, or administrative privileges may be able to access content. You are responsible for device security, account passwords, operating-system updates, and backup security.
10. Retention
Klackey applies the following retention practices to information processed by its own services:
- Trial records: The pseudonymous device value and trial status may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to enforce one trial per device, prevent repeated trial abuse, maintain accurate records, and resolve disputes. The record is not routinely accessed after a purchased license is activated, but it may remain stored for those purposes.
- Referral records: Unclaimed temporary referral-correlation records expire within six hours. Referral information associated with a completed transaction may be retained as part of affiliate, transaction, accounting, fraud-prevention, and legal records.
- Update checks: Klackey does not intentionally create a persistent device profile from update checks. Standard infrastructure and security logs may be retained for a limited period by Klackey or Cloudflare for service operation, abuse prevention, diagnosis, and security.
- License and order information: Retention by Lemon Squeezy is governed by Lemon Squeezy's policies and legal obligations.
Klackey may retain information longer when reasonably necessary to comply with law, establish or defend legal claims, investigate fraud or abuse, or enforce agreements.
11. Legal Bases for Processing
Where the law requires a legal basis, Klackey processes limited personal data as follows:
- To perform a contract or take steps requested before entering a contract, including license activation and validation.
- For Klackey's legitimate interests in providing a fair trial, preventing abuse, maintaining service security, delivering updates, attributing referrals, and protecting the Software, provided those interests are not overridden by applicable rights.
- To comply with legal obligations, including transaction, tax, accounting, consumer-protection, and dispute requirements.
- With consent where applicable law requires consent.
12. Your Choices and Rights
You can prevent Klackey's ordinary online requests by blocking network access, but doing so may prevent initial activation, periodic license validation, update checks, referral attribution, and continued access to licensed editing and productivity features after the validation grace period.
If a purchased license cannot be validated for the permitted validation period, the Software may enter a restricted state. You can continue to open the application, view existing locally stored data, and export or back up that data. Full functionality resumes after successful validation.
Depending on where you live and whether an applicable privacy law covers Klackey's processing, you may have rights concerning personal information, such as rights to request information, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection.
Klackey's trial record is deliberately not linked to a name, email address, customer account, or license. As a result, Klackey generally cannot locate a particular trial record from a name or email address alone and cannot confirm that a requester is associated with a particular pseudonymous device value without additional technically reliable information. Klackey will not ask you to email the raw Windows MachineGuid or macOS IOPlatformUUID.
Requests may be sent to Support@Klackey.com. Klackey will evaluate and respond to requests as required by applicable law. Klackey may decline or limit a request when it cannot reasonably verify the requester, cannot identify the relevant record, must retain information for fraud prevention or legal compliance, or when another legal exception applies.
You may deactivate a license through the Software. Deactivation requests removal of that activation instance from Lemon Squeezy, but does not necessarily delete order, customer, tax, fraud-prevention, or transaction records that Lemon Squeezy is required or permitted to retain.
13. Security
Klackey limits the information transmitted by the application and uses encrypted HTTPS connections for online requests. Klackey takes reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the limited information it processes.
No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Klackey cannot guarantee absolute security, and you remain responsible for protecting your device, operating-system account, local database, backups, license key, and exported files.
14. Children
Klackey is a general-purpose productivity application and is not directed to children under 13. Klackey does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Klackey's online services, contact Support@Klackey.com.
15. Changes to This Policy
Klackey may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the Software, services, providers, law, or business practices. The effective date identifies the current version. Material changes will be communicated through an appropriate method, which may include the Software or Klackey website, before or when the changes take effect where required by law.
