Version 0.9.21August 31, 2026+

Added

On its very first launch, Klackey now opens a short getting-started page in your browser — what to try first, links to the full guide and support. Appears once per fresh install only, never again and never after an update.
Text expansion now catches near-misses on symbol-prefixed abbreviations (e.g. !TLSA) — mistype one as !TSLA or !LTSA and a small "Did you mean…" bubble appears near your cursor showing the clipping's name and the real abbreviation; click it to insert, or just keep typing to ignore it. Only ever triggers for abbreviations starting with a symbol (not a letter or digit) and only after a short pause, so ordinary typing is never interrupted — a correctly-typed abbreviation still expands instantly exactly as before, with no change.
Settings → Advanced now has a "Debug logging" toggle and an "Open log" button — for troubleshooting a specific issue with support without needing a special build sent to you. The log only ever records lifecycle events (what happened, never what you typed, your clipboard content, PINs, license keys, or passwords) and now covers a lot more ground than before: backups/restore/import/export outcomes, Secure Folder enable/disable and every PIN attempt, and license activate/deactivate/renewal/validation results.
Settings now has a "Report a problem" section — a simple "Report a bug or suggest a feature" box, available any time including during your trial, not just once you're licensed. Just your email (so we can follow up) and a message; your license status, app version, and platform are attached automatically so you don't have to spell them out.
The Folder/Binder picker (in the clipping editor, and when saving a Clipboard History item as a clipping or note) can now create a new one right there, instead of having to back out to the sidebar's own "+ New folder" first — a "+ New folder" option is always right at the top of the list, or type a name nothing existing matches and a "+ Create" option appears for that name specifically.

Settings has been reorganized around each tool instead of two grab-bag sections: Text expansion, Quick-paste, Screenshot tool, Clipboard history, Startup & window, Sidebar & navigation, and Notes & Binders each get their own section with their on/off switch and all their own options together (hotkeys included) — plus new standalone Sound and List & search sections, and Updates split out from License. Every section now collapses to just its heading by default, with a search box at the top (with typo tolerance and synonym matching, e.g. "password" finds Secure folder) that expands and scrolls straight to whatever matches.
The version number at the bottom of Settings has quietly been clickable for a while (opens release notes for your current version) — Updates now also has an explicit "Release notes" button that does the same thing, since nothing marked the version number as clickable.
Stats now shows your top 10 most-used clippings instead of top 5.

Fixed

Pasting an image clipping by typing its abbreviation (or accepting a "Did you mean…" suggestion) could silently paste as non-image content instead — most noticeable in apps like Slack that need a bit more time to actually read a pasted image, since Klackey wasn't recognizing these as image pastes at all and so never gave them the longer wait before restoring your clipboard. Fixed; quick-paste and Copy were never affected.
Added right-click Copy to Clipboard History.
Earned Badges weren't included in backups at all, so restoring on a new computer or after a reinstall reset every badge to none — and some couldn't even be automatically re-earned afterward, since a few of them depend on counters (like screenshots saved) that weren't backed up either. Both now travel with your backup.

Added

A new Stats view in the sidebar: total times Klackey has done the typing for you, characters you didn't have to type, an estimated time-saved figure, and your 5 most-used clippings — with a glowing hero number, glow-icon cards, and proportional progress bars showing how each clipping stacks up against your single most-used one. Correctly counts Secure Folder usage toward your totals even though, by design, Secure Folder clippings never appear in the most-used list itself. States plainly that everything shown is calculated from your own local activity and never uploaded or shared.
A new Badges view in the sidebar: 27 badges — milestones like your first abbreviation, first pinned clipping, first Secure Folder item, usage milestones from 10 uses up to 10,000, finding something inside a screenshot's OCR-recognized text, using Extract Text on a screenshot, saving clipboard history items as permanent clippings, how much you've ever copied to clipboard history overall, creating your first Plain text clipping, and saving a screenshot as a clipping. Each badge has its own hand-drawn icon and glow color on a dedicated dark background. If you'd already done something a badge covers before updating, it's awarded quietly the first time Badges loads — no pop-up for things you did in the past, only for badges you earn from here on. Settings → Functionality → the sidebar-views checkboxes let you hide Stats and/or Badges if you'd rather not see them.
Notes: a new template picker (icon button next to New note, while browsing Notes) starts a new note from a template — 17 to start, organized into Meetings, Projects, Personal, and Trackers (plus Call/Support Note on its own), each pre-filled with real structure and, where relevant, today's actual date. Templates live as ordinary notes and binders inside a new "Note Templates" binder — pinned to the bottom of the Binders list with its own icon — so you can edit any of them, add your own, or organize them into your own folders; the picker always mirrors whatever's actually there. The binder stays out of All notes to avoid burying your real notes under the starter templates (search still finds one by name directly), and survives Export/Import/Restore correctly. Right-click the binder and choose "Share as a template pack…" to export it — folders and all — ready to send to someone else; importing their file merges it into your existing Note Templates instead of creating a rival second one.
Notes: a new Duplicate button in the note header creates an identical copy of the current note (name gets a " (copy)" suffix) in the same binder, and selects it.
A short klack sound now plays when an abbreviation or quick-paste pastes something, or when the Screenshot tool copies/saves a capture or Extract Text finds something. Settings → Functionality → "Play a sound on expansion" (on by default).
Every clipping can now be marked Plain text or Rich text (Rich text stays the default for everything, new and existing). A Plain text clipping always pastes as plain text and unlocks a new "Cursor position" dynamic snippet that lands your cursor exactly where you placed it after expanding. Clippings containing an image or table can't be switched to Plain text (you'll get a toast explaining why), since neither survives as plain text.
All clippings and All notes now sort newest-first by default, so whatever you just made or edited is right at the top instead of wherever alphabetical or insertion order happened to put it. A new toolbar button switches to oldest-first, and All clippings also gets an "Images only" filter. Neither choice is remembered between launches (matching Clipboard history's own sort/filter); the existing "sort alphabetically" setting still wins if you have it turned on.
If a critical security update is found, Settings now labels it as such instead of looking like a routine update, and you'll get a native notification even if Klackey's window isn't open.
Settings → the version number at the bottom is now clickable, reopening the "what's new" popup for whatever version you're currently running — not just the one automatic showing right after an update.

Fixed

Settings → Updates ("Update checks" toggle and update status) was only visible with an active license — updates themselves were never license-gated, so this now shows during a trial too.
On macOS, the Screenshot tool had no permission onboarding at all: without Screen Recording access, the hotkey silently did nothing, with no indication why. Klackey now explains what's needed the moment a screenshot is attempted without it, offers a direct link to System Settings, and prompts to restart once it detects the permission was actually granted.
On macOS, clicking the Dock icon (or the OS re-activating Klackey during its own quit/relaunch) at the wrong moment could crash the app with "Object has been destroyed."
Automatic backups now run reliably no matter how long Klackey has been open — previously they were only checked once, right at launch.
Exporting a folder to share (Export → Folders/Binders) now correctly preserves whether a clipping is an image, so shared screenshots arrive intact.
Right-click → Copy on a clipping, note, or clipboard history row now always copies exactly the item you clicked.

Version 0.9.19August 21, 2026+

Added

Real search now reaches inside images. A screenshot saved as a clipping, or any image you copy, gets read with on-device OCR shortly after capture, so text that only ever existed inside an image is still searchable later. Settings → Functionality → "Search inside screenshots and images" (on by default).
Clipboard history now keeps the last 2,000 things you copy (up from 500). Browsing history has a new filter button alongside the existing Newest first / Oldest first sort, covering both a date range and an "Images only" option from one menu. A new "Remove duplicate history entries" toggle (off by default) removes an older copy of something you copy again, keeping only the latest.
The 7-day feedback prompt asks a new question once you opt in to being quoted: "What would you tell a friend about Klackey?"
A downloaded update waiting to install now shows an "Update ready — restart to install" pill in the sidebar, next to your license status, not just in Settings → Updates. Click it to restart and install right away.
Backups can now optionally include your clipboard history. Settings → Backups → "Include clipboard history in backups" (off by default). Restoring a backup made with this on merges its history into what's already there instead of duplicating anything you've already got.

Screenshot tool: on multi-monitor setups, the hotkey now captures only the monitor your mouse cursor is on by default, instead of capturing and decoding every connected screen before the region-select overlay could appear — the main source of the delay reported with 3-monitor setups. A new toggle switches back to the old all-monitors behavior for anyone who relies on drag-selecting across screens.

Fixed

The automatic/manual backup crashed entirely if a single Secure folder clipping's content couldn't be decrypted — every other clipping was lost along with it. That one row now backs up as still-locked-to-this-device content instead, and everything else backs up normally.
The app icon and the sidebar logo both had stray background artifacts left over from how they were last exported. Regenerated from the original artwork.
Secure folder: creating a subfolder inside it silently stored that subfolder's contents unencrypted, despite looking protected. Subfolders are no longer allowed inside the Secure folder.
Secure folder: restoring a backup that included your Secure folder could nest it under the imported container instead of keeping it at the top level. It's now always restored at the top level.
"Start minimized to tray" was ignored when Klackey launched automatically at sign-in — a leftover, orphaned Windows startup registration from an earlier version could win the race and show the window regardless of the setting. The stale entry is now automatically cleaned up.
The "Update ready — restart to install" sidebar pill could show even when you were already on the latest version, and stay showing indefinitely. It's now cleared correctly once your running version catches up.
Importing or restoring a large backup could freeze the app for a long time, and a "failed" import (a wrong backup password, for example) could still leave most of the backup sitting in your library instead of properly undoing it. Both now happen as a single all-or-nothing operation — a failed import truly changes nothing, and a successful one is dramatically faster.
Klackey could take a long time to start, or feel briefly frozen right after opening, once your library grew large — a missing database index made the sidebar's per-folder item counts much slower to compute than they should have been at scale.
The backup password prompt's Cancel button didn't actually cancel — it silently proceeded with the import anyway, which could easily look like nothing had happened when it actually had. Cancel now genuinely cancels; restoring everything except the Secure Folder is its own explicit checkbox instead.
Importing or restoring the same backup more than once created duplicate copies of clippings you already had, every time — most noticeable in the Secure Folder. Klackey now recognizes an exact match already there and skips it instead of creating another copy.
Restoring a backup reset every clipping to unpinned with zero usage history, and image clippings stopped being recognized as images. Pinned status, usage counts, and image clippings now all survive a backup and restore correctly.

Fixed

The Secure folder's list view showed a clipping's abbreviation as garbled text instead of the real value, including for clippings created after the 0.9.15 fix below — only the title was being decrypted for display, not the abbreviation shown next to each row. Both now show correctly.

Fixed

Settings → Updates could offer a "Download update" button that opened your browser to download the installer manually, even though Klackey updates silently in the background. This happened whenever Settings was opened before that silent download had finished — it now just shows "Downloading…" and switches over on its own once ready. The manual download link is still there as a fallback, but only appears if the silent download genuinely fails.

Fixed

Fixed a bug introduced in 0.9.14: opening a Secure folder clipping that existed before that update incorrectly showed "This content was secured on a different device and can't be decrypted here," even on the same computer that created it. Content was never at risk — it opens normally again, and is automatically brought up to date the next time Klackey starts.

Klackey now checks for updates in the background and downloads them silently — no more finding the download yourself and running the installer again. It applies automatically the next time you quit, or immediately via a new "Restart & Install" button in Settings → Updates. A new Automatic/Manual toggle lets you turn off background updating in favor of an explicit "Check for updates" button.
Import from OneNote. Export a notebook as a .onepkg file (or gather loose .one section files), then import it — one folder per section, one clipping or note per page, with formatting preserved. (Windows only for now.)
A "Search titles only" toggle limits search to clipping/note titles instead of titles, content, and tags.
Settings → Functionality: choose which smart views (Pinned, Most used, Recently edited, Abbreviations) appear in the sidebar, and whether launching at startup opens the window normally or stays minimized to the tray.
Secure folder: an optional backup password, so its content can actually be restored on a new computer or after a reinstall.
Secure folder: an optional PIN gate for pasting, off by default — expanding a secure abbreviation pauses for a PIN until you enter it, then stays unlocked for a configurable window before it's needed again.
Secure folder: a clipping's name, tags, and abbreviation are now encrypted along with its content.

Disabling clipboard history or text expansion now also hides the matching view from the sidebar, instead of leaving an inert entry behind.

Fixed

The Notes tab inside Pinned/Recently edited stayed visible even with Notes fully disabled in Settings — it's now hidden along with the rest of the Notes UI.
Copying from the Secure folder no longer briefly leaks the copied content into Klackey's own clipboard history.
Restore now double-checks that the chosen file is actually a genuine Klackey backup before using it, and confirms first if a backup looks empty.
Entering the correct PIN at the Secure folder's optional paste prompt sometimes required a second try before it would actually paste. A correct PIN now works immediately.

Screenshot tool. Snip any region of your screen, then copy it, save it as a new clipping, or extract its text on-device — no image ever leaves your computer. Has its own on/off toggle and hotkey in Settings, same as quick paste.
A "What's new" popup now appears after Klackey updates, summarizing what changed in plain language, with an optional link to a short demo video. You can also preview what's coming before installing an update — a new "See what's new" link sits next to the update button in Settings → Updates.
Paste Special. Right-click a paste target in the editor for a new submenu next to "Paste as Plain Text" that pastes your clipboard's text transformed — UPPERCASE, lowercase, Sentence case, Title Case, or iNVERTED cASE.

Fixed

The editor's meta field was always labeled "Folder," even when a note (which belongs to a Binder) was open. It now correctly reads "Binder" or "Folder" depending on what's open.

Find in clipping/note. With a clipping or note open, Ctrl+F opens a small find bar scoped to that document — type to highlight and jump between matches, Enter/Shift+Enter or the arrow buttons move next/previous, Escape closes it.

The window's close button (X) now closes Klackey completely by default. A new Settings toggle, "Keep Klackey running in the background," brings back the previous tray behavior.

Password generator. A key-icon button in the editor toolbar opens a strong, random 20-character password — always includes an uppercase letter, lowercase letter, digit, and symbol, and skips easily-confused characters like 0/O or 1/l/I.
