The same abbreviation-and-fill-in idea.
No account, no monthly seat.

Klackey is a text expander for Windows and Mac built around the same core idea as TextExpander, type a short abbreviation and get the full text back, with fillable fields for the parts that change. The difference is what it’s built on: Klackey stores everything locally, no account required, and is a one-time purchase instead of a recurring per-user subscription.

Write it once, personalize it every time

Fill-ins work the same way
you’d expect them to.

Write a snippet with {{fill:Label}} tokens for the parts that change, assign it an abbreviation, and Klackey asks you to fill in the changing details before pasting the finished text, anywhere on your computer.

More than a text expander

What Klackey adds
that TextExpander doesn’t offer.

Clipboard history

Everything you copy, searchable, not just what you've deliberately saved as a snippet.

Notes and binders

Longer-form notes live in the same local app, organized separately from your snippets.

Screenshot and OCR

Snip part of your screen and pull the text out with on-device OCR, nothing uploaded.

Secure Folder

Keep passwords and other sensitive snippets out of regular history, encrypted separately.

Import your library

Bring in a TextExpander CSV export directly, folders and all.

Local backups

A rotating local backup runs automatically. Nothing depends on a server staying up.

Bring your existing library

Already have snippets
in TextExpander?

Export your TextExpander snippets as a CSV file and import it directly into Klackey. Column names don’t need to match exactly, and the import becomes editable clippings with their own abbreviations, added to what you already have without overwriting anything.

Questions, answered

Good to know.

Can I import my existing TextExpander snippets?+

Yes. Export your TextExpander library as a CSV file, then import it into Klackey. Column names don't need to match exactly; Klackey is deliberately permissive about how they're labeled, and the import becomes editable clippings with their own abbreviations.

Does Klackey support fill-in fields like TextExpander's?+

Yes, with Dynamic Snippets. Write a snippet once using {{fill:Label}} tokens for the parts that change, and Klackey asks you to fill them in before pasting the finished text.

Is Klackey missing anything TextExpander has?+

Yes, and it's worth saying plainly: TextExpander has native iPhone and iPad apps, a Chrome extension with AI-suggested snippets, and real-time team libraries that sync automatically across everyone's devices. Klackey is Windows and Mac only, and sharing a library with a teammate is an explicit export and import, not automatic sync.

Does Klackey work without an internet connection?+

Yes. Klackey stores everything locally and doesn't require an account or a connection to expand text, sync a library, or search your history.

What happens when my trial ends?+

Nothing is deleted. You can still open Klackey and browse, search, and export everything you've created. Editing and background features (clipboard capture, text expansion, quick paste) pause until you activate a license, and pick up right where you left off once you do.
