Private by design · Your content stays local

Longer thoughts deserve
more than a clipboard entry.

Klackey’s Notes are a separate space from Clippings, built for meeting notes, running to-do lists, and anything else you’re actively writing rather than pasting elsewhere. Organize notes into Binders, search them the same way you search everything else, and keep them stored locally with the rest of your Klackey library.

A dedicated space for longer writing

Notes aren’t built
for pasting elsewhere.

Clippings are for text you reuse. Notes are for text you’re actively working in: meeting notes, a running to-do list, reference material you keep coming back to and editing. Click Notes in the sidebar and you get the same rich editor, search, and formatting tools you already use for clippings, just in a space meant for writing instead of reuse.

Organized like clippings, kept separate

Notes live in Binders.
Never mixed with your Folders.

Binders are Notes’ own folder tree, complete with their own book icon so the two structures never blur together. Nest binders inside binders, drag to reorder, and rename, move, or delete them from the same kind of right-click menu you already use for folders. A note can only be filed into a binder and a clipping can only be filed into a folder, so dragging one into the other’s tree simply does nothing, by design.

Fully searchable, not just filed away

Find a note
as fast as you’d find a clipping.

Notes are indexed by the same search as everything else in Klackey. Search from anywhere by default, or scope it to the binder you’re browsing. Matches are highlighted right in the results, and hovering a note shows its actual formatted first few lines before you even open it.

More than a notes app

Your notes live alongside
the rest of your workflow.

Clipboard history

Notes and everything you copy live in the same local app, not two separate tools.

Text expansion

Turn a clipping into an abbreviation while your notes stay exactly what they are, notes.

Global search

Reach your clippings and recent copies from anywhere with a keyboard shortcut, no need to open Klackey first.

Local backups

A rotating local backup runs automatically once a day, notes and binders included.

Secure Folder

Keep passwords and other sensitive text out of Notes entirely, in Klackey's separate encrypted Secure Folder.

Import and export

Export any binder as an HTML document or a Klackey JSON file to share reference material with a teammate.

Useful for real working situations

Wherever you find yourself
writing something down to keep.

Questions, answered

Good to know.

How are Notes different from Clippings?+

Clippings are meant to be reused, typically pasted elsewhere with an abbreviation or quick paste. Notes are a separate space for longer-form writing you're actively working in, like meeting notes or a running to-do list, using the same editor and search as clippings.

Can I turn off Notes if I don't use them?+

Yes. Settings, Functionality, "Binders and Notes" hides the Notes view and the Binders tree from the sidebar entirely, if you'd rather keep Klackey to just clippings and history.

Are notes searchable the same way as clippings?+

Yes. Notes use the same search Klackey uses everywhere else: global by default, or scoped to the binder you're browsing, with matches highlighted right in the results.

Can I share a binder with someone else?+

Yes. Export lets you pick one or more binders and save them as an HTML document or a Klackey JSON file, which a teammate can import directly into their own Klackey.

What happens if I delete a note or binder by mistake?+

Deleted notes and binders move to Trash and stay recoverable there for 30 days before being permanently removed.
