Three things you can do
with what you just captured.
Press the screenshot hotkey and drag to select any part of your screen. Once you’ve selected a region, three options appear: Copy puts the image straight on your clipboard, ready to paste anywhere. Save Clipping keeps it permanently, searchable and organizable like any other clipping. Extract Text runs on-device OCR on the selection and copies the recognized text to your clipboard instead of the image.

You don’t have to remember to click Extract Text for this to work. Any image you copy or save, a screenshot, a picture pasted from somewhere else, gets read by the same on-device OCR shortly after capture, in the background. A code buried in a screenshot, an error message, text in a photo, all of it becomes something you can search for later, without slowing down the copy or save itself.

On a multi-monitor setup, the tool captures only the screen your mouse cursor is on by default, faster, since it isn’t decoding every connected display before the overlay even appears. Move your cursor to the monitor you want, press the hotkey, and select. If you’d rather drag-select across multiple monitors at once, turn off “Capture only the monitor under your cursor” in Settings, Functionality.

What are my options after I snip a region?+
Three: Copy, which copies the image to your clipboard ready to paste anywhere; Save Clipping, which saves it as a new clipping, searchable and organizable like any other; and Extract Text, which runs on-device OCR on the selection and copies the recognized text to your clipboard.
Is anything uploaded to recognize text in an image?+
No. Text recognition runs entirely on your computer using a bundled, offline OCR engine. Nothing about the image or its text ever leaves your machine.
What happens on a multi-monitor setup?+
By default, the screenshot tool only captures the monitor your mouse cursor is on, which is faster but means you can't drag-select across monitors. Turning off "Capture only the monitor under your cursor" in Settings, Functionality captures every monitor at once instead.
Do I have to manually choose Extract Text for an image to be searchable?+
No. Any image you copy or save, screenshot or not, gets read by the same on-device OCR shortly after capture in the background, so its text is searchable later even if you never clicked Extract Text yourself. Settings, Functionality, "Search inside screenshots and images" turns this off if you'd rather it didn't.
Does the screenshot tool have its own shortcut?+
Yes, separate from quick paste's. The default is Control+Alt+S on Windows, Command+Option+S on Mac, and you can set your own in Settings.
