Searchable Notes

Private by design · Your content stays local

You remember writing it.
Search finds it in seconds.

Every note you save in Klackey is instantly searchable, full text, not just titles, with results ranked by relevance, matches highlighted right in the list, and a real preview before you open anything. Search everything at once, or scope it to a single binder when you already know roughly where a note lives.

You know it’s in there somewhere

A note you can’t find
isn’t doing its job.

You wrote the deployment steps down three weeks ago. You know it exists. What you don’t remember is which binder, what you titled it, or the exact phrase you used. A notes app that only lets you scroll through a folder tree turns every one of those moments into a hunt. Klackey turns it into a few keystrokes.

Type roughly what you remember

Prefixes, hyphens, and spacing
don’t have to match exactly.

Search matches word prefixes, not just whole words, and treats hyphens and spacing loosely: whether the note says load balancer, load-balancer, or loadbalancer, typing any of those forms finds it.

loadbalanc
Staging Environment Notes...restart the load-balancer before running the migration...
Incident Retro · March...traced back to the load balancer health check timeout...
Global by default, scoped when you want it

Search everything,
or just the binder you’re in.

Klackey’s own search box searches every binder at once by default, meeting notes, project references, everything. Already browsing a specific binder? Scope the search to just that one, and the same instant, highlighted, ranked results narrow to it. (Klackey’s system-wide keyboard shortcut is a separate feature built for clippings and clipboard history, not notes, see Global Search for that.)

Three moments this actually matters

Finding fast
beats organizing perfectly.

Reopening an old troubleshooting note

You fixed this exact error six months ago and wrote down the steps. Search the error message and the note surfaces, highlighted match and all, instead of you re-solving the problem from scratch.

Pulling up a decision from a meeting

Someone asks what was decided about a vendor three meetings ago. Search the vendor name across every meeting-notes binder at once and the relevant note ranks to the top, no scrolling through a project timeline.

Finding a note when you only remember a fragment

You remember “onboarding” and “checklist” were in there somewhere, not the exact title. Prefix matching finds it from either fragment, and the preview confirms it’s the right note before you click.

More than a search box

Search fits into
everything else your notes do.

Binders

Notes are filed in their own Binders tree, separate from your snippet folders.

Same search engine as clippings

Notes use the identical full-text index Klackey uses for clippings, inside the main window.

Clipboard history

Notes live in the same local app as everything you copy, not a separate tool to switch to.

Text expansion

Turn a line from a note into a reusable abbreviation without retyping it.

Local backups

A rotating local backup runs automatically once a day, notes and binders included.

Secure Folder

Passwords and other sensitive text stay out of Notes and its search entirely.

Indexed on your computer, not ours

The search index
stays local too.

Notes and their search index live in a local database on your own computer, not on a Klackey server, so searching your notes never sends their content anywhere. A rotating local backup runs automatically once a day, and manual backup and restore are available any time from Settings.

Questions, answered

Good to know.

How fast is note search in Klackey?+

Instant. Notes are indexed the moment you save them, using the same full-text index Klackey uses for clippings, so results update as you type rather than after you finish and press enter.

Does it find a note if I only remember part of a word?+

Yes. Search matches on word prefixes, so typing "config" finds a note containing "configuration." It's also hyphen and spacing insensitive, so "load balancer," "load-balancer," and "loadbalancer" all find the same note regardless of which way you originally wrote it.

Can I search inside just one binder instead of everything?+

Yes. Search is global by default, across every binder, or you can scope it to whatever binder you currently have open, if you already know roughly where the note lives.

Does search show me where the match actually is?+

Yes. Matching text is highlighted directly in the results list, and each result shows a real preview of the note's formatted content around the match, not just the title, so you can usually tell it's the right note before opening it.

Does Klackey search inside old notes too, or just recent ones?+

All of them. There's no time window or archive step, every note you haven't deleted is part of the same live search index, regardless of when you wrote it.

14 days. Every feature.

Never lose a note
in a pile of other notes again.
